Welcome Dr. Corbier & Neurology Wellness PLLC @ Cyzner Institute!

Neurology Wellness PLLC has opened its doors to children & families at a NEW location - the Cyzner Institute! We are pleased to announce this new practice - and partnership in care - with our esteemed colleague and friend Jean-Ronel Corbier, MD, a Board Certified Neurologist with special qualification in Child Neurology.

Dr. Corbier has worked with families in the greater Charlotte area for a number of years, delivering quality and compassionate care for individuals with a range of neurological needs including autism, sensory integrations disorder, PANDAS, neuro-immune disorders, speech/language delay and other special needs. Dr. Corbier is a conventionally trained Child Neurologist as well as a Nutritional and Integrative Neurologist looking at the 'whole' health of his patients in delivering comprehensive and customized care. He and his staff consult with patients and their families to fully evaluate and understand the scope of underlying problems associated with neurological disorders as well as develop effective treatment plans. Emphasis in approach is on close collaboration with various specialists, primary care providers, pediatricians, therapists, counselors, and others involved in the patient's treatment plan to ensure communication, coordination, and the best possible continuity of care.

Day School Summer Extension

Reported in the research-based literature, documentation exists that most students lose skills over the summer break, and every school year must begin with weeks of review. When you take into account the population of our students who often struggle with memory, retrieval and the organization of information, the lack of practice and use of newly learned skills may often  have an even greater impact.

To help our students continue to learn and progress in their development, Cyzner Institute is offering a 6- and 7-week Extended School Year program for current CI students as well as for new families*. While we will integrate summer fun activities, the program will essentially be a continuation of what we offer during the CI Day School academic year (individualized educational programming layered with therapy) and will take the place of our summer camps. Therapeutic services including ABA therapy and tutoring, OT, speech-language, and music therapy will also be available and can be scheduled separately.

Summer programming will start the week of June 17th (CI will be closed the week of June 10). The school week will run Monday-Thursday; we will be closed on Fridays. Summer hours will be 9am-1pm (no early care will be provided but After-care will be available up until 4pm on school days). Contact Tracey Johnson @ 704-366-8260with any questions and to request additional information, forms, and dates.

*For new summer students, a visit and placement test will need to be completed to ensure candidacy; results should be submitted along with application by April 8.

Dr. Cyzner Authors Chapter for Well Known OT Textbook

Congratulations to Dr. Lisa! She has been asked again to author a chapter in "The Texture of Life - 4th Edition". This is a widely referenced OT textbook used by faculty at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels. She is busy working on her first draft - 'Chapter 10: Ability/Disability Continuum and Activity Match' - and will submit early March. Dr. Cyzner is a published author and has written for this and other publications in prior years. We have a resident author and expert in our midst at CI!

A Letter from Dr. Cyzner

December 18, 2012

Dear Cyzner Institute Families and Staff,

I am not sure that we are given that much time anymore during our fast-paced, ever-changing lives to reflect and to truly think about what gives us meaning in our lives. In light of the recent events in Newtown, CT and with the holiday season already upon us, it is the juxtaposition of tragedy and joy that gives us pause.

I have had the honor of being invited to so many wonderful celebrations throughout our school this week. I want to say how much it meant to your children that you, as parents and extended family, were able to take the moments needed to share in their learning and to experience with them their success, and most importantly, their increased sense of self-confidence and self-worth. What a gift this is for all of us, families and staff, to share in the collective praise of our children and students. I appreciate all of the thought and effort on behalf of our staff that went into the planning of such memorable, individualized experiences for everyone.

Thus, what we can take away from the past week's events in Connecticut and also within our own community and school is that it is the gift of time that we should try each in our own way to embrace. Thank you for taking the time to be with your children this week during our school celebrations. Relish in the time that you have to spend with families and friends during the holidays. It is during these times that meaningful memories are made and from which the foundation for our children's emotional well-being is created and sustained.

Thank you, as always, for all of your support. I wish all of you a very safe, healthy and peaceful holiday season.

All my best in the new year,
Dr. Lisa
